CINEMA DSP Digital

・ Since the Dolby Surround and DTS systems were originally designed for use in movie theaters, their effect is best felt in a theater having many speakers designed for acoustic effects. Since home conditions, such as room size, wall material, number of speakers, and so on, can differ so widely, it is inevitable that there are differences in the sound heard. Based on a wealth of actually measured data, Yamaha CINEMA DSP provides the audiovisual experience of a movie theater in the listening room of your own home by using the Yamaha original sound field technology combined with various digital audio systems.
・ The actually measured sound field data contain the information of the height of the sound images. CINEMA DSP 3D mode achieves the reproduction of the accurate height of the sound images so that it creates the accurate and intensive stereoscopic sound fields in a listening room.
SILENT CINEMA

Yamaha has developed a natural, realistic sound effect DSP algorithm for headphones. Parameters for headphones have been set for each sound field so that accurate representations of all the sound field programs can be enjoyed on headphones.
Digital ToP-ART

Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) is the name Yamaha has given to a design philosophy whose goal is to maximize digital quality while minimizing analog circuitry. The culmination of Yamaha’s long experience in digital engineering and design, it brings together several key elements to create the best-sounding, A/V components available on the market.
Compressed Music Enhancer

Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.
YPAO Automatic System Calibration

Yamaha’s YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level, etc. Until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room and you don't have to do anything!

Audio & Video
The compressed Music Enhancer performs high range expansion processing and low range emphasis processing of compressed music sources such as MP3 or WMA. It restores the original depth and width of the sound, as well as its brilliance and group feeling. Developed by drawing on Yamaha's vast expertise in sound and music, the compressed music Enhancer lets you savor the true pleasure of listening to music. It can be used with a wide range of sources, including digital music players, Internet radio, MD and FM broadcasts.
Enjoy much better sound from all your music sources. Yamaha technology reproduces the subtle nuances of the original sound for greater listening pleasure.
When you listen to music in a digitally compressed format such as MP3 stored on portable audio players through loudspeakers for a big sound, the music can’t be enjoyed as fully as with HiFi sound. Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing with advanced algorithms to enable playback that reproduces the nuances and musical qualities of the original sound.

The Compressed Music Enhancer is an exclusive Yamaha technology that uses advanced DSP technology to compensate for the musical elements that are lost through compression to reproduce the lost nuance and pleasure of music.
Yamaha’s philosophy of improving sound quality begins with the question, “What is the ideal music that we want to achieve by improving compressed music quality?” We put “the sheer pleasure of hearing music” above everything else. We want to go beyond simply simulating the original sound to achieve a powerful sound experience that you will truly enjoy.
We do this by drawing on our 20 years of DSP experience, the creation of the most advanced LSIs and the deep understanding of sound and music that we have accumulated through musical instrument manufacturing, acoustic design, and our relationships with artists all over the world. We use our experience and technology to provide the pleasure derived from music.
MP3, AAC and other music formats that use digital compression cut out music data in the high and low frequency ranges and eliminate small sounds during high volume segments in order to decrease the size of the data. The fact that data is missing is difficult to hear with portable players, but when listening through speakers it is clearly apparent that part of the musical nuance is lost. When you listen to this music, you will be dissatisfied with the inadequate lustrousness of the high range, and with the thin response in the mid-low range.
The Compressed Music Enhancer is a new function that is intended mainly to create harmonics from the remaining music data utilized by DSP, focusing on the fact that the music elements that are lost when the original music is digitally compressed are mainly the harmonics. It combines High Frequency Expansion Processing with Low Frequency Emphasis Processing that emphasizes the bass by creating a super-low range component. These processes vividly revive the range, presence, force and dynamism of compressed music.
The Compressed Music Enhancer is also suited for FM broadcasts and for compressed digital broadcasts where the high range elements have been lost. Music nowadays includes much music premised on its compression and net distribution, and there are cases where its effects are difficult to understand.

Compressed Music Enhancer Block Diagram
Harmonics are slightly added in all bands. Specifically, n harmonics are added to the high range and 1/n harmonics to the low range. The added elements undergo dynamic range compression and are synthesized. During synthesis, the listening perception is aligned. Just before output, the high and low ranges are slightly enhanced by high and low shelving filters.
We recommend using the Compressed Music Enhancer function when listening to songs with a groove feeling and lively music such as Rock, Soul, Disco and R&B. It will of course greatly improve the high parts, but also the depth of the drums and the driving feel of the bass.
